When recession-impoverished Hank Herald chooses to rescue a mysterious old man, he inherits from him the power to transform into Scion—a being composed of over a thousand generations of heroes. Converting the combined wisdom, strength and power of all the Scions who came before him into consumable energy, he is gifted with flight, unmatched strength, and energy projectiles. There are, however, stipulations to his powers; he cannot transform into Scion without the help of a willing person to merge with, nor hold the transformation for an extended period of time, or he risks killing them. This gives ordinary people the opportunity to choose to be the hero, inspiring them to do great deeds. Each time Hank turns into Scion his life will be shortened. Eventually, Hank will be sacrificed to choose a successor, as he was chosen. The existence of Scion is a reminder that there is always a choice to do what’s right. In accepting to take on the mantle of Scion, Hank’s greatest strength will also be his downfall.
